I can't believe that 20 days have past since I started this challenge! I'm having so much fun the days are simply flying by! I'm also learning a lot too about my process and how I work best. I prefer to create patterns in the early morning or late at night, probably because that is when my house is most quiet and I am so creative when it's quiet. It's almost like when it's loud and chaotic I can't hear inspiration. Weird? I know, but that's the way it is so I embrace it.
Every day I get up before my kids and draw with only hot tea and my cat to keep me company. Then I leave the motifs for a little while so they can get really comfortable with each other before I make a pattern, you know, they do some trust exercises and ice breakers and then we get down to business!
Once I sit down in Illustrator making a pattern takes about 15-20 minutes depending on how successful the get to know each other party was. I work fast to get my ideas together. I work fast because I like to let the motifs dictate how the pattern is going to play out. They are in charge. Sometimes they can be a little stubborn so that's when I leave them alone again so the motifs can get it together before I can complete the piece. This process works 99% of the time. I've only left a couple of motifs behind for being rude and not working well with others, that or I give them their own pattern and call it a coordinate!
So here are days 11-20 of my 100 Patterns by KPS challenge. My favorite is Day 12 and someone said that Day 20 looks like ham and eggs (NOT my intention, but cool). I also got a little crazy with blue, but that's to be expected. I love blue.
That was fun! Now bring on days 21-30!!
